Not Welcome

Fern walked nervously to the forest she had come to know so well in all her time as a Guardian, the trees swayed in the evening breeze and the birds sang their last song, before sleeping for the night. She watched as squirrels scurried and hedgehogs burrowed under fallen leaves. But tonight, tonight was different. She was to meet with her sister Wren after 300 years apart. Ever since her own death, Fern could not bring herself to go back to the land of her childhood, she did not want to be confronted by recurring memories she saw in her sleep, but she had to see Wren once more.

"Fern?" she heard a familiar voice call out.

They rushed to each other in a hasty embrace, Fern tried to ignore the choked sobs that escaped from her lips.

"It's been so long, sister," Fern said.

Wren nods, and shortly after doing so, a tall and dark skinned man walks into the forest to stand next to Wren. Fern quirks an eyebrow to question who this unfamiliar man is. She tells her older sister that the man with her is here fiance Flint. 

"You've grown up sister," Fern said, chuckling.

"As have you, Fern... There are some matters we need to discuss, you are no longer allowed in the glaves where we grew up, it is clear your allegiance is to them and therefore, you cannot return."

Before the nature guardian had a chance to question her younger sister, they both disappeared, leaving Fern feeling more alone than ever before.
